My Community
For the "My Community" Project, we put together Zines based on groups of people that were really close to us. A Zine is a personal booklet that usually contains text, images and/or art surrounding a certain topic and is produced without the intention of making a profit. For my community, I chose to focus on my cross country team. I am really close to the athletes on the team, and I have been a part of the program ever since my freshman year. I have also been fortunate enough to be a Varsity competitor in the sport, and I have really improved on my times on a meet-to-meet basis.
To create the Zine, we started off by taking at least 20 pictures related to our community, and then compiled them into our booklet. We were also instructed to write a personal narrative about our experiences with the group we highlighted, and had to include an interview with someone from the community, or write a newspaper-like article about the topic. In addition, there had to be a drawing in the Zine using one of the techniques we had explored over the past semester in Art. I created a symbolic Zentangle that represented the trails and hills that we often run up as a team. To the right, you will find a digital version of my Zine. Hope you enjoy it! |
