Nature & Me
For this project, we were to look at the effects people have on the environment based on their actions in recycling, supporting certain products, or generating waste. This was accomplished by looking at a few short documentaries about waste, and the investigation of probing issues relating to being "green." To start off, we conducted a series of trash analyses in a certain location (e.g., school, house.) With the data from those analyses, we were to identify a problem we thought was most intriguing or potentially harmful to our world. This could be noticing that there was too much food waste in the trash can, or there were plastic bottles in the garbage, etc. I held my analyses at school, and found that there were quite a few cartons being thrown away, even though they have the capability of being recycled. To address our chosen issue, we were to research more into the concept, and then formulate an annotated bibliography to cite our sources and explain where we discovered our information. With our annotated bibliography, we would then choose a company or business that we felt could have some impact on the issue and let them now how they could assist the environment in a positive way. I chose to write a letter to a local company called Hollandia Dairy, and contacted them about how they could change their carton labeling in order to limit confusion on the recyclability of their product. Having mentioned this, the HOHAM I feel I used best during this project was supposition, because I was making suggestions in my letter for the company I was addressing to potentially change. Below, you will find my reflection from my trash analyses, my annotated bibliography, and my solution letter that I sent to Hollandia Dairy.
