Symbolic Silouhette
For the Symbolic Silhouette project, we had to represent our personality, hobbies, favorite things and memories through imagery and logos. We also had to be thoughtful about our choice of color, and our reasoning behind why we chose to make our piece look the way we wanted it to. The color scheme we used was supposed to be founded from the knowledge we gained about the color wheel and color combinations in the Mini Color Pencil Book. In addition, this work had to be based off of the concepts and images we explored in our Mind Map.
I chose to use the colors red, blue and yellow for a variety of reasons. First of all, the colors fall under the primary color scheme, and they are all split complimentary colors. Each color was meaningful to my personality in some shape or form, too. Yellow displayed my energetic and cheerful side, blue showed how I am usually cool, calm and collected, and the red presented my bold and confident side. It was really important for me to convey each of these personal messages through my work. Even if the viewers of my piece did not have an explanation for why I chose the colors that I did, they would still associate me with the visual decisions I made. As far as the design elements went, I thought I went really outside-of-the-box with my approach. I wanted to make sure that there was no empty white space to show that I am a complete and "full" individual, and I try to push any emptiness inside of me away. All of the symbols I drew in my silhouette were intentional and had some meaning behind them, many of them having been derived from my Mind Map. For example, the puzzle in my head shows that I do not have all of the answers in life, and I still need to figure things out. I also tend to make decisions based on how I feel emotionally, which is why I placed the "key to my mind" in my chest. The cardinal on the left side represents my favorite baseball team, the St. Louis Cardinals, and the bear right next to it was symbolic of my childhood nickname, "Robby Bear". In the end, I was really proud of my work, and I hope you can see all of the hard work I put into it! |
