Sports
By reading my bio on the About Me page, one could take a pretty good guess that I am both a huge sports fan and an athlete as well as a student in the classroom. At High Tech High North County, I have been a part of the Varsity Cross Country team during the fall and the Junior Varsity Basketball, Golf, and Track and Field teams during the Fall and Spring seasons respectively. To take a look at life on the field, here are some photos of my progress as a runner on the course and the track, a guard on the hardwood, and a golfer on the greens.
Fall: Cross CountryMy first year of cross country or running in any competitive setting, I probably had one of the most valuable team experiences I have had in my entire life. With some offseason training in various locations around North County and Big Bear, I felt myself slowly blossoming into a solid runner. Finally, my hard work paid off during the time trials at the beginning of the season. Based on my performance, I placed for Varsity as a freshman, which was definitely one of my proudest moments and greatest achievements over the course of my time at High Tech. From there, the mighty HTHNC Raptors went on to compete in multiple events including the Laguna Hills Invitational, the Dana Hills Invitational, the Running Center Southern Cal Invitational, the well-known 67th Annual Mt. SAC, numerous conference meets, and the San Diego CIF Championships. Throughout the year, I feel like I had been improving consistently after each and every meet, and I had to overcome a lot of adversity to get to the point where I am now. I never thought I would have been sacrificing my Saturday mornings for 8-mile runs, but it was totally worth it. However, I know I've got a lot of work to do, and I'm ready to make some serious strides heading into my final two years.

Winter: BasketballFor both my freshman and sophomore years on the basketball team, I had the ability to learn and grow under the guidance of the upperclassmen on the team. I played for the junior varsity squad both seasons, and I think I really improved on my abilities. While I may not have been actively involved with the daily practices and games, I could build upon my skills at home, shooting hoops in the driveway. After having spent two years as a reserve, I have become more motivated to succeed in the sport in the future. Another issue was that as a sophomore, the JV team did not have a coach, so we could not play in any games. I was truly disappointed by this, but I learned to push it aside and focus on my potential for the future.

Spring: Track & Field
After the golf team was discontinued in 2015, I decided to pursue track & field, which turned out to be a great option for me athletically. I was given the opportunity to build upon the progress I had made during the cross country season, and I specialized in the mid-distance events. I ran in events across San Diego County including the 800m, the 1600m, the 3000m, and the 1200-400-800-1600m distance medley. While some around me had said that the logistics surrounding track were hard to get past, I was very happy with how the team was being run. We had a solid core of leaders in juniors and seniors, and the transportation to each meet was not a problem.
As a result of all of my hard work, I qualified as an alternate for the 1600m and 800m in the Frontier Conference; I was the only runner on my team to do so in the mile. Looking ahead, I am excited to continue what I have started on the track, and this season was a blast! Accomplishments

Spring: Golf
For my freshman year as a High Tech High, I decided to take part in golf for a spring sport. I had been playing golf off-and-on for a while, but I wanted to be more consistent with my game. With a Varsity team filled with seniors, I had the opportunity to compete for the Junior Varsity team. While I was still learning and improving for the majority of the season, I made steps in the right direction through practices on the putting green, at the driving range, and on the course. At the end of the year, I was recognized for my efforts with the CIF Diamond in the Rough Award, which was given to a student at HTHNC who showed potential in his/her respective sport. Despite the developments I made in my game, the team was discontinued after 2015 due to a lack of interest in the team. As a result, I wanted to find a team for which I could still contribute to. It may already be obvious, but I wanted to take advantage of every athletic opportunity that was available to me.
